The Benefits of Composite Bonding
Composite bonding (also known as cosmetic bonding) is a simple and cost effective cosmetic dentistry procedure. A tooth coloured composite resin material is applied to a tooth which is sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished.
The term bonding is used because the resin material chemically bonds to the tooth.
The main advantages of composite bonding include:
Simple and affordable
Treatment is relatively quick and takes one visit
Ideal for simple cosmetic work such as discoloured, chipped, broken or gapped teeth
Pain free – anaesthesia is not normally required
Less enamel removal compared to veeners and crowns

Your composite bonding dentist will first apply a pain free and gentle phosphoric acid to the surface of your teeth. This roughens the surface to help the bonding material stay in place.
The putty-like resin material is then placed onto the tooth’s surface where it is shaped and sculpted as required. A special light is then used to help the material harden and set.
Finally, the composite is polished and buffed for a smooth finish to achieve stunning natural looking results.
There are other options available, such as veneers, crowns and dental bridges. However these are all more extensive, costly and invasive treatments.
The most appropriate treatment for each individual case depends on a number of factors, including costs and the condition of the impacted teeth, mouth, gums and neighbouring teeth.
