The symptons below are the most common signs that you may need root canal treatment:
Endodontics is the area of dentistry that relates to the pulp tissue located on the inside of teeth. This pulp can become infected for a variety of different reasons, such as advance delay or a fracture.
This can become extremely painful and can usually include inflammation and swelling to the affected area. If this is left untreated it can eventually lead to the tooth needing to be removed.
To avoid the need for the tooth to be removed, our highly skilled specialist endodontist can save and restore the affected tooth with root canal treatment. They will expertly clear away the damaged tissue and replace it with a special substitute which saves and strengthens the tooth.
Root canal treatment is required to save a tooth when the nerve of the tooth becomes diseased or infected.
When a tooth pulp becomes infected, bacteria starts to grow within the tooth, which when left untreated, results in pressure being placed on the tooth and causes intense pain.
If root canal treatment is still not performed, bacteria will eventually destroy the pulp causing the bone structure around the tooth to weaken and inevitably lead to tooth loss.
Saving and strengthening natural teeth is always our priority whenever possible.
After root canal treatment, the affected tooth may require a crown to protect, strengthen and seal the tooth.

Most single root canals take less than 1 hour, with multiple root canals taking around 2 hours, but this depends on the complexity of the case.
Root canal treatment is a routine treatment and is extremely safe with minimal to no pain thanks to the use of local anaesthetics which numb the area, prior to treatment. However you may experience minor swelling near the affected area during the first 24 hours after the treatment.
The whole tooth could be extracted, however it is always better to try and save it, especially as root canal treatment has a success rate over 90%.
Saving a tooth can also prevent further issues from occuring, such as bite problems, eating difficulties, teeth shifting positions and a reduction in jawbone density and volume.
