A bespoke treatment plan will then be created for you if it is decided to go ahead. The procedure itself typically involves a number of visits to the practice.

Firstly, the new implant is securely fitted into position, before it is left for a period of time to allow it completely fuse with the jaw bone. This process is called osseointegration.

Once this is complete, the implant is fitted with an abutment, on top of which the a dental crown can then be placed. Progress is then monitored at a series of follow-up appointments.

Same day implants involve a much quicker process than traditional implants, with the procedure itself being carried out in just a single visit to the practice.

As well as the obvious convenience of this speed of treament, and the fact that you will leave the practice with a complete set of teeth, same day implants have other benefits. The surrounding soft tissues and gums generally heal quicker and are less likely to recede.

Same day implants also fuse better to the jaw bone – and the fact that the implant is placed immediately means that the site of an extraction can heal quickly without being prone to infection.

There are other options available, such as dental bridges and dentures. The most appropriate treatment for each individual case depends on a number of factors, including cost, the number of teeth missing and the condition of the mouth, gums and neighbouring teeth.

Implants are widely considered as the best option, as they give the greatest stability, don’t impact on other teeth and achieve the most natural-looking results.
